Great Blue Heron

You may see the largest heron standing silently, statue-like, stalking fish and other prey in shallow water, rivers, lakeshores or when the rivers are high…cruising neighborhood ponds. They may move slowly but can strike like lightning with the-fast thrust of the neck and head as they stab with their strong bills to grab a fish. They stand 3 to 4 feet tall with a wing span of almost 6 feet. I have chased them away from my ponds many times!
