Lady in Red

…Of course, her manner was gracious…after all she was a true “Southern Lady”! Her eyes project an innocence of life but her fiery red feathers and vintage dress flirt with a by-gone era of Scarlett O’Hara and a time lost but not forgotten.

As the artist for this painting, I must say that I own this dress. I called MGM Movie Studios and bought the pattern for Scarlett O’Hara’s red dress from the movie, “Gone With the Wind”. It was an expensive endeavor but the end result is very beautiful. The dress has a six foot train with the crocheted loop from the era for placing over your finger to hold the train up while dancing. Twelve red feather boas form the bustle, cover the top of the arms and there are feather “poofs scattered along the skirt.

I wore this dress to Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne’s Inaugural Ball in 1998. There was only one red vintage dress dancing the night away!
