Maria lived in Columbia, South America for thirty years and when her male owner died she live d with another family for over twenty years, then they brought her to America. At some point she went to live with a female veterinarian and she became very stressed because she loved only MEN…birds choose…she was what they refer to as a “Man’s Bird”! During this time she picked out all her feathers she could reach until she was down to bare skin. She needed a new home…so she came to live with my family. She hated me but loved my husband. I handled her on a stick and she was easy to manage because her wings had been damaged and she couldn’t fly. She had five voices and could sound exactly like me…Southern drawl and all! She could say 146 words in English and quite a few in Spanish. She loved pizza, spaghetti, salad with blue cheese dressing, milk, eggs and buttered toast. She loved to sit out in the yard by the ponds on a shepherd’s staff and take a bath in the sprinklers. She loved going to Home Depot and riding in the cart talking to everyone. She was a character out of a Walt Disney movie with her antics. We had to give her to another home when my husband became terminally ill. She was an adventure with many unbelievable stories.
